Articles on Back Pain

NHS & NICE

The National Institue of Clinical Excellence (NICE, advisors to the NHS) have recently researched that the the most effective management of presistant non specific low back pain is manipulation and exercise advice see link below:

CSAG

Clinical Standards Advisory Group (CSAG) Report on Back Pain

In 1991 The Clinical Standards Advisory Group was set up as an independent source of expert advice to the UK Health Ministers and to the NHS on standards of clinical care. They were asked in 1992 by the Health Ministers to "advise on the standards of clinical care for, and access to and availability of services to, NHS patients with back pain".

The role of osteopathy

CSAG lays particular importance on the role of manipulative therapy in the effective management of Back pain. The elements of manipulation consist of:

  • symptomatic treatment to control pain
  • manipulation
  • rehabilitation
  • education on prevention and personal responsibility for continued management.

These guidelines exactly are what an osteopath will do and have done for years which is why we have a good reputation for eliminating back pain effectively.
